On the occasions that I have stop my reading to look up a word in Cassell's, more often than not, I find that I also have to look it up in English. Does this

__simply reflect the fact that Pérez Galdós, in his detailed descriptions of setting, never quite managed to free himself from the artifices and other excesses of romanticism, including use of words that readers of this century would not necessarily know?

This counts for yesterday...internal clock completely out-of-whack...woke up today and the first words I uttered were, "NO fucking way!" after putting on my glasses and reading the numbers on my alarm clock - 12:35!
